Comparison of locking compression plating vs retrograde intramedullary nailing in distal femur extra-articular fractures

<p><strong>Background</strong>: The purpose of the study was to compare outcome distal femur extra articular fractures treated with locking plate and retrograde intramedullary nail.</p><p><strong>Methods: </strong>86 patients’ extra-articular were included in study. 44 patients operated nailing; 42 plate. Results 2 groups compared regards clinical radiological outcome, intraoperative timing blood loss. Post-operative status evaluated using visual analogue scale, neer score, knee range motion union on plain radiographs. Patients followed-up at 4 weekly intervals from 8 28 weeks then 1 year.</p><p><strong>Results</strong>: Mean operative time loss less nailing group whereas plating group. 6 developed surgical site infection Mean-time till significantly better 7 had issues (5 non-union, delayed union) patient IMN nonunion. 93% cases able bear full weight 12 66% Knee pain months more group.</p><p><strong>Conclusions:</strong> proved be a modality fixation fracture our terms time, rates, rates overall if done proper principles techniques fixation.</p>
